There have been rumors in the circuit that Summerslam 2023 could eventually mark the end of Ronda Rousey’s run in the WWE. This is the reason why her match against Shayna Baszler was inserted into the match card of the premium live event was inserted, hurriedly. Now, it appears that the two will battle on the show in their familiar territory.
Over on this week’s Monday Night Raw, it was announced that Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler’s matchup at Summerslam 2023 will be contested under MMA Rules. While nothing certain was announced about such rules, we assume there will be a lot of grappling style and the match finish would be decided via Submission or TKO rather than a pinfall win in a pro-wrestling matchup.
Ronda Rousey’s 2023 WWE Run Reportedly Ending Sooner Than Later
The announcement of this stipulation at Summerslam 2023 comes after it was already assumed that the two former UFC Stars were scheduled to compete in a special environment, Last week, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler’s match could still get an interesting stipulation after it was made official for the August PLE.
Shayna Baszler wanted a FIGHT at Summerslam
As seen on Raw during the build of the show, The Queen of Spades has called for “a fight” at Summerslam 2023 rather than just having a match inside the squared circle,
“Rousey vs. Baszler in promos will be “a fight.” We’re told the idea is not a street fight but more of an MMA rules type of match, which makes sense with both having extensive backgrounds.”
At Money in the Bank, Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey put their Unified WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships on the line against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. During this match, Baszler attacked Rousey and passed her out in the Kirifuda Clutch which allowed Morgan and Rodriguez to pick up the victory and become two-time champs. This marked the beginning of the feud between the two former besties.
