Competition to get into the main show of Summerslam 2023 has been heating for sometimes but WWE will stick to its plans to keep the number of matches, minimum on the card. Since taking over the creative team, Triple H has lessened matches on each PLEs and stopped following the trend of his predecessor to load up the card with random matches.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that overall eight matches are scheduled to take place at Summerslam 2023. There is a bit of competition, backstage within WWE right now to get to the main card of the biggest PLE of the summer and this might result in getting a world championship match excluded from the event.

Top names could end up missing Summerslam 2023
As pointed out by WON, Summerslam 2023 doesn’t have the World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, United States Champion Austin Theory or WWE Hall of Famer Edge set for the card. The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn may also end up getting nixed from the mix.

“This doesn’t include Seth Rollins, tag champs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn, U.S. champion Austin Theory or Edge, all of whom would either be almost a sure thing to be on such a big show or would be possibilities.
It could be that matches earmarked for the show could be moved at the last minute to the TV shows either right before or right after the card, as was done with both the women’s titles and the tag team title this past weekend.”
The source noted that Triple H goes with the philosophy when it comes to booking the premium live events as he wants each match to get more time on the show. Hence, not every single marquee name is bound to get the spotlight at Summerslam 2023. This is the complete opposite way of booking things in comparison to Vince McMahon who used to change things on short notice.
