She’s been kept out of action due to an injury that took place back in May of this year. Her latest show-up on TV indicated that she could be cleared to get back to action but there’s still time to let it happen.
At Summerslam 2023, Bianca Belair captured the WWE Women’s Championship by dethroning Asuka in a triple-threat match that also included Charlotte Flair. The EST of WWE’s second reign as the blue brand women’s champion did not last long, as IYO SKY successfully cashed in the Women’s Money in the Bank contract to capture the title after the triple threat.
Thereafter, a great reunion was noticed featuring Kai, SKY, and Bayley. This also appeared to be a sweet moment for the trio who eventually made their debut at the 2022 edition of Summerslam. Following Summerslam 2023, Kai also attended the press conference with her two DAMAGE CTRL buddies to receive the question about her in-ring return.

Summerslam 2023: Dakota Kai returns to WWE for the first time in months
In return, Kai noted that she attended Summerslam 2023 just to make the reunion happen while in reality, she still has a long way to go before coming back to action,
“So I came because this is such a big moment for her and us as a group. I’m still a ways a way from being in-ring cleared, but I had to be here for her tonight. It was a crazy accomplishment for her representing us as Damage CTRL. 2024 is going to be crazy, but we’re getting there! I’m squatting heavy, alright?”
Dakota Kai dealing with an ACL injury
Summerslam 2023 marked the first on-air appearance for Kai in months as the Raw Superstar has been out of action since May dealing with a torn ACL. WWE never opened up about this injury but according to veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, Kai’s injury has been confirmed as a torn ACL and that requires 6-8 months to get healed.
As for SKY, she captured the first solo title on the main roster at Summerslam 2023. She is a former two-time former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, with both reigns coming alongside Kai. Kai herself has been a former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion in WWE.
