The SummerSlam 2023 event has entered the history books and fans must have had their big moments from it. Of course, WWE crossed all the measures to present the biggest party of the summer with a stacked card. But despite the arrangements, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler’s match ended up becoming a bathroom break match which is unfortunate.
WWE had their thinking to keep Rousey vs. Baszler on for Summerslam 2023 while some of the top matches like the Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez or Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus had to be kept off the card due to time constraints. But ultimately the MMA Rules match failed to excite the fans, at all.
WWE Summerslam 2023 Moment Between Brock Lesnar-Cody Rhodes Wasn’t Scripted
Summerslam 2023 match became a debate for WWE creative team
One of the biggest reasons behind the unimpressive match would be WWE’s creative dealing with problems while setting up the match. During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that there were some issues between WWE Creative and the two match competitors. The idea of having an MMA Rules Match eventually became the source of debate,
“There were issues between WWE creative and them as far as how it was gonna go, and you don’t have knock downs in an MMA fight and do 10 counts, or whatever, but it’s like, you have some people stuck in one mindset about combat and others who think a different way, but you know.”
Summerslam 2023: Rousey vs. Baszler used as a bathroom break
As seen at Summerslam 2023, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler had a throwdown in the MMA rules match after the Slim Jim Battle Royal match. Baszler was the one to instigate the feud with Rousey by turning on her at Money in the Bank and she’s also the one to have picked up the win in the MMA Rules Match.
On an interesting note from the match, a video from the crowd in Ford Field Stadium showed that fans were leaving their seats during Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler match. They were not permanently leaving the arena but this match seemed perfect for them to stretch their legs for a bit.
Now that the match is over at Summerslam 2023, the speculation is that Ronda Rousey could be done with the WWE. While nothing regarding the hiatus is known, Baszler previously indicated that Rousey isn’t leaving the WWE, permanently.
