Summerslam 2023: Top Champion Confirmed To Miss WWE PLE Due To Injury

Summerslam 2023 is set to bring the best wrestling experience for the WWE Universe, this weekend with some top matches. WWE Superstars will take over Motor City in the United States to compete in these matches. Previous reports did confirm that there were a lot of competitions to get into the card of the show in the first place.

In an update, it’s now been confirmed that one of the top WWE Raw Superstars will indeed end up missing Summerslam 2023 due to an injury situation. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the “tag titles won’t be on the show with Kevin Owens getting time off due to his broken rib”.

Update On Randy Orton’s Return To WWE Around Summerslam 2023 PLE

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are the reigning WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions, and they’ve had those titles since WrestleMania 39 Night One. Given their popularity, it was easy to speculate that those belts would be up for grabs at SummerSlam 2023 which isn’t the case.

Kevin Owens reaggravated an old injury

It should be noted that WWE played a kayfabe injury angle on the second last Raw before Summerslam 2023 around Kevin Owens and fans paid attention to that. He appeared in a trainers’ room segment in the July 24 edition during the show in a hurt state. Then Meltzer’s report confirmed that the injury angle was legit, but this wasn’t a new injury.

“Kevin, he’s actually been working through it for awhile, and they’ve been waiting for a time to finish up whatever he’s gonna finish up. Then they were gonna do this angle, something, I don’t know how long, but he’s gonna get a rest. I don’t know what the status of the tag team titles are, I just know it’s a legit injury, and so that’s the basic gist of the story.” (transcription by Ringside News)
