With a major Summerslam 2023 announcement looming in, this week’s special episode of Smackdown on FS1 kicked off with the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and Paul Heyman arriving at the arena. As Roman agreed to defend his title against Jey Uso at the upcoming premium live event, the two then met in the ring in the main event of Smackdown, later that night.
Roman was quick to present Jey with a contract in the Rules of the Engagement segment before mentioning that Jey was just a pawn in this game. Jey tore up the contract and noted that they didn’t need any contract for a showdown.
The former WWE Tag Team Champion then said this match at SummerSlam 2023 should be a “Tribal Combat” Match which basically means a No Rules No Disqualifications matchup that will proceed under any circumstances. After agreeing to the match, Roman opted to up the stakes for the match, announcing something more important.

Roman said that he has run this business for almost a decade now. After placing the Undisputed Title on the table and placing his Ula Fala on top of the Title, Jey reminded him that this is going to be a Tribal Combat. Roman stated that it’s a “Winner Takes All” match at SummerSlam 2023 where the winner will be the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and The Tribal Chief, at the same time.
Thus, Roman Reigns will go through his fourth overall title defense of 2023 in a rematch against Jey from 2020 at Summerslam 2023. He last successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at Wrestlemania 39 against Cody Rhodes.
Women’s Title Match announced for Summerslam
Also, at Summerslam 2023, WWE Women’s Champion Asuka will defend her title against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair in a Triple Threat, a match that was confirmed on Smackdown, this week. Charlotte Flair defeated Ms. Money in the Bank IYO SKY on Smackdown after which Asuka attacked Flair with the Armbar submission. After this segment, the match was officially announced for the Biggest Event of the Summer.
