Some major plans for Summerslam 2023 have been reported in recent times including a big reunion of two former NXT Champions. The two were reportedly gearing up for a title match showdown against the reigning Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. But if the latest reports are any indications then this match is now off the card.
A few reports updated a few weeks back that WWE planning to reunite former NXT Tag Team Champions Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, together known as DIY (Do It Yourself). The reunion was supposed to happen on Raw as both these two are members of the red brand roster following the Draft 2023.

Undisputed Tag Team Title Match scrapped from Summerslam
The original plans called for DIY to take on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam 2023. However, that isn’t the case anymore, according to insider source BWE which reports that this match has been pulled from the premium live event of the WWE.
Johnny Gargano possibly not returning before Summerslam 2023
Tomasso Ciampa is back on WWE TV to get involved in a feud with The Miz on Raw. He lost to The Miz in a No DQ match this week while Gargano still remains off WWE TV. While this remains one of the reasons behind the match not happening, the packed card already set for Summerslam 2023 is another valid reason for WWE possibly postponing this anticipated match.
In the meantime, Fightful Select reported the following about Gargano and his status around Summerslam 2023,
“On Monday, there was a report noting that Johnny Gargano was still injured, and wouldn’t be competing at this year’s SummerSlam.
While we can’t confirm his status for WWE SummerSlam, or the status of the originally planned DIY angle, we can confirm that Gargano is no longer injured, and was factored into recent creative plans in WWE.”
Currently, eight matches are rumored for Summerslam 2023 with the headliner being the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion match where Roman Reigns will defend against Jey Uso. WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin is also rumored to appear at the premium live event in a talk show hosted by Grayson Waller in a special segment.
