ToggleThis weekend, WWE will present Summerslam 2023 edition in an outdoor stadium for the third year in a row. This time around, the biggest summer spectacle will take place at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan and the card has shaped to be pretty big. But there is a certain backlash over the card regarding the female roster of the WWE.
Summerslam 2023 will only feature two women’s division matches, which include a Triple-Threat WWE Women’s Championship match featuring the champion Asuka, Charlotte Flair, and Bianca Belair, and an MMA Rules match between Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler.
WWE was initially planning two more matches at Summerslam featuring four more top female superstars of the Raw roster but things had to be changed in due course. WWE was building up a Women’s World Championship match between Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez over the past month, but they didn’t announce it for the PLE. Same was the case around the Becky Lynch vs. WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus matchup as this also got a lot of build-up time, but now this bout will take place on Raw in Canada during the August 14 episode.
Summerslam 2023: WWE canceled two top matches from the female roster
That being said, WWE only has two women’s division matches announced for SummerSlam 2023 while two big matches were pulled off the match card. This move was bound to frustrate some fans over how the Women’s Division has been handled on the road to the PLE. On this note, WRKD Wrestling reports the backstage feelings regarding these cancellations,
“There are growing frustrations backstage in WWE regarding the handling of the women’s division.”
Two top stars expressed disappointment over missing Summerslam
Besides scrapping these matches off Summerslam 2023, WWE also hasn’t given significant time to several women on the roster in recent weeks. The whereabouts of talents like Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, Indi Hartwell, Tegan Nox, Emma, and many more are under the microscope for the time being.
As previously reported, Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch have expressed their disappointment via recent Instagram stories after being left off Summerslam 2023. Also, Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley liked a couple of tweets regarding her absence from the biggest event of the summer which also was a subtle hint that she’s unhappy over not getting a spot on the match card.
