ToggleHeading into Summerslam 2023, WWE Universe certainly had some bigger expectations around the current top sensation LA Knight. Being so over with the fans on the blue brand, the babyface figure was genuinely believed to get involved in a top championship match or a similar angle.
As seen during the past few weeks on Smackdown, many thought that LA Knight was gearing up for a big push in the United States Title picture in time for Summerslam 2023. LA eventually did not win the fatal-4-way match on SmackDown to advance in the United States Title tournament. This indeed was a shocking decision, as two members of the LWO, Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio were booked in a friendly match in the finals.
WWE Raw: Top Female Superstar Legit Ruled Out With Shoulder Injury
LA Night will have to wait for his push in WWE
With that move, the murmuring around LA Knight getting buried around Summerslam 2023 had begun just like the young superstars used to experience in the Vince McMahon era. Addressing the speculations on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer made it clear that LA was not getting buried by a long shot but rather the creative team was just taking their time before giving him the deserved push,
“They’re not burying LA Knight, they’re just taking their time.”
It was also noted that “they are very much in control of this one,” because LA Knight wouldn’t get special promo time, each week if they didn’t see anything special in him. The push will eventually come possibly after Summerslam 2023 as “they’re producing him as if he is a star, they’re putting him in a position to be a star.”
That being said, it appears that LA would have to wait for his big career-defining win for the time being. WWE could have arranged it for Summerslam 2023 but they feel the time isn’t right yet for the former Eli Drake in Impact Wrestling.
