WWE Superstar Spectacle 2023 will be a live event in India after a long wait of six years and this keeps the fanbase super excited. The event is scheduled from the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium (Gachibowli Indoor Stadium) in Hyderabad, India, on September 8, 2023. As reported previously, this falls on a Friday when WWE has their weekly taping of Smackdown and the blue brand roster won’t be able to travel to for this show.
The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY, Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair, Solo Sikoa, The Usos, LA Knight, Rey Mysterio, and many more will be on the absentees’ list which could be big problem for the show hosts to sell out tickets for Superstar Spectacle 2023. Additionally, there’s one more problem in doing so.
WWE has to utilize different tactics for Superstar Spectacle 2023
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that WWE has an issue selling tickets in India because the way of doing business is certainly different for the company. In India, sporting events are bought out by sponsors, and fans are able to attend for free. The event organizers do not have to worry about gates, because sponsors take care of those as they need to recover the spent money.
WWE has never followed this model as they’re charging for tickets and also holding paid shows. Superstar Spectacle 2023 is being paid for by Sony, but the company is still charging for the 5,000 seats available in the host venue,
“WWE has never done this and that’s why even with all their popularity their live attendance has never been what people think it would be. If they do the usual TV set up, you’re really talking closer to 3,500 there. Sony is basically paying for them to come in, so the attendance and gate for this show isn’t really the story.”
Before Superstar Spectacle 2023, this tradition was first innovated in 2021 on the occasion of Indian Republic Day inside the ThunderDome capacity of the WWE in Orlando, Florida. Prior to that show, WWE last visited India in 2017 where they sold out an audience of 9,000 fans in New Delhi. The main event featured Triple H defeating Jinder Mahal, and the latter heavily promoted the show throughout the year while being the world champion for almost six months.
