After being hosted as themed episodes on NXT programming for the past few years, The Great American Bash is finally returning as a WWE Network Specials. During last night’s Battleground PLE, it was announced that the event related to USA’s Independence Month will take place at Cedar Park, Texas on Sunday, July 30.

Thus, The Great American Bash will be the second premium live event of the summer 2023 season from WWE following July 1st Money in the Bank from the O2 Arena in London, England. Previously, the next PLE from NXT was expected to go down during the Summerslam weekend in the first week of August but it has eventually been preponed.

With the official announcement, The Great American Bash will also continue a trend for the WWE NXT brand of doing PLEs outside of their home territory of Orlando, Florida at the WWE Performance Center. Following the COVID-19 pandemic the spree started with NXT Vengeance Day in Charlotte, North Carolina, and then NXT Stand and Deliver during WrestleMania 39 weekend in Hollywood, California.

Previously the head-booker of NXT programming, Shawn Michaels had stated that the NXT brand has big plans for expansion in the future and they might start hosting shows in international locations along with new stops in North America.

The Great American Bash 2023 edition won’t likely be colliding with rival brand AEW’s programming, unlike Battleground which ran simultaneously with Double or Nothing 2023. However, on July 29, a night prior to the WWE summer PLE, AEW Collision will have its weekly programming. Also, the Summerslam weekend in early August won’t have any NXT programming attached to it.
