Fans must be wondering why Kofi Kingston hasn’t addressed losing the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar on SmackDown. It was at the premiere episode of the blue brand on FOX where he faced the beast incarnate in a much-hyped matchup.
But it under-delivered in the sense that Lesnar picked up the pinfall win in just a few seconds. An F-5 ended the long title reign of Kofi Kingston that began at WrestleMania 35.
Favorite revealed to win 2020 women’s Royal Rumble
Since then, WWE has just ignored the fact that Kofi Kingston even has been the WWE Champion. He has not received a single promo session with the mic after dropping the belt which raised the eyebrows of the fans.
He is just being booked in the tag team scene alongside his partners as if nothing happened. WWE may have been doing this on purpose as they have a plan on the former champion.
According to the reports of WrestlingNews.co, WWE will soon be addressing the situation in a big way. The officials have been discussing a heel turn for The New Day.
This would be the first time since the latter part of 2015 that the trio would be turning heel. Perhaps this is the only way that they could save Kofi Kingston’s strong status that he earned as a champion. Here’s more from the plan, (courtesy wwfoldschool.com)
“Some WWE officials pitched the idea of breaking up The New Day, but Vince McMahon wants a heel turn for the faction. A heel turn for The New Day was considered back in 2016 as well when they lost the RAW Tag Team Titles, but they didn’t go ahead with it due to The New Day’s merchandise sales being strong back then.”
However, merchandise sales for The New Day haven’t been good for quite a while now (It happened despite Kofi Kingston being the WWE Champion for the better part of 2019). Hence, WWE won’t be having problems regarding this heel-turn.
Xavier Woods has picked up a recent injury in a live event that took place in Australia. A torn Achilles Tendon will not let him compete inside the squared circle for almost a year.
So proper functioning of The New Day is not possible anyway with the absence of this funny man. So the heel-turn may be happening quite soon. We’ll see when that would eventually happen in the WWE.
