Stephanie McMahon has an illustrious history of losing her temper while being on TV. Over the years, we have seen how obnoxious of a character she could be when it comes to TV. Most of the time she reflects frustration by slapping the one who would be standing next to her. Several WWE Superstar and even his parents have gone through with those legit shots in the middle of the ring.
Former WWE commentator Tom Phillips worked in the company from 2012 up until his release in May. His work ethic received praise from both fans and Superstars. Phillips also possesses some memories from working in the biggest professional wrestling promotion of the world and it definitely includes the time when he was slapped by Stephanie McMahon.
Maria Kanellis Lashed Out On Stephanie McMahon Neglecting WWE Women’s Division
This incident took place on the December 21, 2015, episode of Monday Night RAW, Slammy Award Night which ended with Dean Ambrose defeating Sheamus in a Steel Cage Match. At that point, Vince and Stephanie McMahon were in the middle of a feud against Roman Reigns and his former Shield brethren Ambrose following the annual TLC pay-per-view event.
The week before Roman Reigns won the WWE Championship from Sheamus and Stephanie McMahon was irate about the fact. The Big Dog then interfered with Ambrose vs. Sheamus steel cage match, helping Ambrose to win. Revealed: When Stephanie McMahon’s Contract As A WWE Talent Ends?
Stephanie McMahon legit slapped Tom Phillips on Raw
While speaking on the Sports Media Podcast with Richard Deitsch, Phillips was asked if he was ever involved in any physical incidents during his WWE tenure. The former WWE employee was quick to mention the time he was legitimately slapped by Stephanie McMahon. For him, the WWE head-honcho tried to get it done for real rather than a scripted instance.
“I never took a conventional bump in the ring but there was one. I think it was before Christmas in 2015, I think it was the Slammys, which was also coinciding with RAW, and Stephanie McMahon just slapped me, for lack of a better term. But yeah, knew about it and everything. It was so much fun.
It seems weird but Corey Graves [Phillips’ fellow commentator] standing right off-camera at the time and just staring at me like a big brother being like, ‘Yeah, this is gonna be fun.’ It’s a rite of passage. It was great.
That was full contact. Stephanie is a wonderful human being. I have had nothing but great interactions with her, but if you ask anybody that’s taken the Stephanie McMahon slap, she means it. And that’s a good thing because it’s live, it better not look improvised.”
Stephanie McMahon continues to be an on-screen talent in the WWE who may just continue to slap more such names in the future. As for Tom Phillips, he certainly had a good run with the WWE who would now look forward to his future after getting released by the company.
