Tommy Dreamer Claims John Cena Asked For Permission To Use His Finisher
He has always been loved by the world of professional wrestling because of his hardcore wrestling style. After his ECW career ended in 2001, he worked in different promotions including some big ones and on the independent circuit as well, but he is always remembered for his ECW days.
In 2001 he joined WWE for the first time in his career after ECW was purchased by WWE on the same year. At first he was involved in the WWE vs Alliance storyline in 2001 and after that he started working on the Hardcore Division of WWE and he won the WWE Hardcore championship for a total number of 14 Times. In 2005 he was released from WWE and he worked on different promotions including some independent circuit promotion as well.
His finisher Dreamer Driver is somewhere between the Death Valley Driver of Perry Saturn and the Attitude Adjustment of John Cena. It has a lot of similarities with the AA so it is very much possible that John Cena might have asked for permission from him so that he could use his finisher by modifying it a little.
Tommy Dreamer who is the former two times ECW World Champion and a former 14 times WWE Hardcore Champion recently spoke to Busted Open Radio where he revealed that WWE Legend John Cena asked for permission to him to use his finisher. He said;
“I was blessed to work with John. It kind of was my deal when I worked with WWE. I worked with everyone when they first started on the road. John was always a professional,” Tommy Dreamer said.
“I’ll tell you what stood out because this business is all about respect. It really is. Early on when they (WWE) first wanted to push John, he came to me and said, ‘They suggested in the meeting to use your finish as my finish. I wanted to come to you. If you don’t want me to do it, I won’t do it.’
“I was like, ‘I appreciate you so much for coming to me. I’m not winning with it and obviously they want you to do it, so run with it.’ Just to come to another person and say that, was super cool because he cared when he didn’t have to care.”
