Fresh off her victory at Double or Nothing, the newly-crowned AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm will now go through her first title defense. Interestingly, that title defense takes place in a rare untelevised house show to be hosted by the AEW promotion, tonight.

As confirmed by AEW, Toni Storm will start her second title reign by putting her title against Skye Blue at the AEW House Rules live event scheduled at the Cadence Bank Arena in Tupelo, Mississippi on June 3rd evening. Championships don’t generally change hands at such house shows which indicates that the champion should retain the belt against a rookie performer like Blue.

Before this title match, Toni Storm and Blue wrestled on three different occasions in the WWE. Their latest showdown happened last month at another House Rules event in Salem, Virginia. However, tonight’s match will be different as this marks Blue’s first-ever shot at the title. On the flip side, the champion would want to kick off her reign in style with a dominant outing.

Toni Storm became AEW Women’s Champion at Double or Nothing

During the 2023 AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view, Toni Storm defeated Jamie Hayter to become the new AEW Women’s Champion. Before the match could begin, Saraya and Ruby Soho attacked Hayter on the ramp and Hayter was literally dragged out to the ring by Soho and Saraya for the match.

Eventually, Hayter’s allies Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida tried to help Hayter by taking out Saraya and Soho. However, Toni Storm eventually took advantage of the chaos and secured the three counts after she hit the Storm Zero on Hayter who was already injured and her shoulder heavily taped up, heading into the match.

With this win, Toni Storm started her second reign as the AEW Women’s Champion. Her first title reign started as an interim champion at AEW All Out 2022 in September and ended in November after Hayter defeated her at Full Gear 2022.

Apart from Toni Storm’s title defense, the Tupelo House Rules show will also feature Anna Jay challenging Kris Statlander for her own newly-won TBS Championship. This also marks Statlander’s first title defense after she ended Jade Cargill’s inaugural reign with the title alongside her undefeated streak at Double or Nothing.
