Wrestling industry was dominated by the “big men” and most of them has one dirty little secret in the name of performance enhancing drugs. Better physique pushed the guys further than the ones who were technically better. In 1993, the US government had even accused the biggest name in Wrestling, Vince McMahon, for distributing steroids to his wrestlers which made a change to the industry putting over the likes of Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart thereafter.
In 1990, the official ban came upon steroids. Though many of the professional did accept to having steroids prior to that date and this list consists of the same.

Hurricane
He had a short career in WWE portraying a superhero character that resembled the Green Lantern and had decent success with his run in the company. Though, during this run, it was revealed that he took performance-enhancing drugs, Helms received anabolic steroids from November 2003 through February 2007. Though it was not official but that may be the reason why he has been released from WWE.

Eddie Guerrero
A heartbreaking story for the fans of WWE all over the world was Eddie Guerrero’s passing away. One of the best wrestlers to step foot into the ring was found dead in his hotel room in 2005. An autopsy revealed that he died as a result of acute heart failure, caused by undiagnosed arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease and enlargement of the heart, which was a result of prior anabolic steroid abuse. That was the reason why WWE announced an implantation of drug testing for WWE wrestlers.

Chavo Guerrero
Like Eddie, his nephew too had chosen the dangerous path and took performance-enhancing drugs. It was reported that he received somatropin, nandrolone, and anastrozole between April 2005 and May 2006. Steroids have affected his wrestling life as Eddie passed away for the same cause. We can only hope he would stay away from the drugs in future.

John Morrison
Except for mic skills he had all the abilities to excel the art of wrestling. We had seen his high flying moves in WWE and that pushed him at one point in the title hunt. However, it was revealed that Morrison attained his great physique with the help of anabolic steroids. Morrison received testosterone and stanozolol along with many other performance enhancers from June 2006 through February 2007.

Umaga
Famous Anoa’I wrestling family member Umaga had seen quite a success during his stint in WWE until it was abruptly ended due to the use of anabolic steroids and growth hormones. In 2007, many magazines and newspapers reported that he along with some other professional wrestlers purchased pharmaceuticals from an online pharmacy, which is a violation of the WWE “Talent Wellness” program and, as a result, he was released from WWE. Sadly he died in the year 2009 and the cause of death was acute toxicity.

Chris Benoit
His name is a must mention when talking about wrestling superstars taking drugs. Benoit was one the most talented technical wrestlers of all-time. Benoit was involved in the tragic double murder-suicide of his wife and seven-year-old son in 2007. Toxicology reports revealed that Benoit had an elevated level of testosterone caused by a synthetic form of the hormone in his system, which is found in steroid users. It caused him severe brain damage and it resembled an 85-year-old Alzheimer’s patient brain.

Vince McMahon
At one point he was a wrestler and that is the reason you can find his name in the list. In 1993, McMahon was indicted in federal court after the steroid scandal took over the WWE. McMahon testified in court and admitted to taking steroids in the 80’s. Still now many wonder if he had stopped to take such steroids as he looks in the best physique, till date.
Edge
Many will be surprised to see Edge on this list, as he never had the same physique as other steroid-using wrestlers. Edge admitted to using steroids on TSN’s “Off the Record” with Michael Landsberg in January of 2005. Though, his only issue was to recover quickly from the neck surgery with the help of the steroids. However, in 2007, Edge was named in the Sports Illustrated investigation on wrestlers using steroids and the neck issues ultimately forced him to retire.

Randy Orton
Again, a surprising name from the current WWE Roster. A Sports Illustrated article released in 2007 stated that Orton had received multiple anabolic steroids like testosterone, nandrolone, and stanozolol from September 2004 through February 2007. Orton has been suspended twice by the WWE and to make an example they should release him but the fact is WWE would take a big hit without Orton.

Hulk Hogan
As an American wrestling icon, Hogan used to inspire people every time. Though it does not come to as aspiring when you heard his reference as a steroid user. Hulk Hogan, every child’s hero from the 80’s and 90’s, took anabolic steroids. Hogan testified in a federal trial in 1994 and admitted to using anabolic steroids for 14 years. He stated it wasn’t only for bodybuilding, but also for recovery for injuries. As a surprise, he said he thought it was legal because he had a prescription for it. Though to be honest, Hogan’s steroid use does not come as a surprise since he was a monster of a man at 6’7″ and 320lbs.
