When Shamrock won the tournament, he was actually a rising future star. So the decision of having him as the winner of the tournament was definitely the right decision. But ultimately it did not work. In only one and a half years time, he left WWE never to return to the promotion. He defeated the Rock in the final of the tournament who should definitely have won and become King of the Ring 1998.
