Asuka has not been seen in a WWE ring for the past several months. The wrestler from Japan is quite the fan-favorite since she arrived in NXT. Plus, WWE made her a protected character on TV which makes her a big attraction on TV while performing in matches. There have been tease about her return but it’s unlikely to happen, anytime soon.
The WWE Universe has been wondering about Asuka’s absence on television for such a long time. According to a recent update by Fightful Select, her name is still on the inactive list for WWE, internally. The 2-time RAW Women’s Champion was rumored to have a spot at the 2022 Royal Rumble, but that idea was also shot down.
WWE Raw: Another Champion Injured During Columbus Live Event
“As of February, Asuka was still listed on internal WWE inactive lists, while wrestlers like Xavier Woods were removed from it, even though he still hasn’t appeared on programming.
“One WWE source indicated that the optimistic return is ‘around Spring’ for Asuka, and another said that no creative has been cooked up for her because she’s not available as of yet.”
As you can see, The Empress of Tomorrow was about to make her return at the WWE Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant. Once the match was over, Asuka was also supposed to be the final entrant in the women’s Elimination Chamber match. But then that spot was given to Alexa Bliss as the speculated return was pushed back, once more.

Asuka possibly missing Wrestlemania 38
With WrestleMania 38 just around the corner, many of the fans have been clamoring for Asuka to have a storyline and a match at The Biggest Event of the Year. But the situation appears in a way that there is nothing out there for her. Hence, the former record-winning streak-holder will have to wait to make her way back to WWE TV.
Since Asuka is not returning, anytime soon on Raw, it’s also likely that she would miss Wrestlemania 38. This falls in line with two more top names’ absence from the Show of Shows. Previous reports already claimed that Alexa Bliss and Bayley are the two former women’s champions who could be missing the event.
