Former WWE Champion Big E suffered a broken neck during this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown on FOX. The show that took place from the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama saw Ridge Holland and Sheamus defeat Kofi Kingston and Big E in tag team action, in a match where former NXT Superstar Pete Dunne made his main roster debut as Butch. He also helped help the heels to secure the win by aligning with them.

During that match on WWE Smackdown, a spot was there where Holland tossed Big E at ringside with a belly-to-belly suplex. The connection wasn’t perfect as E was on his head instead of his back. This move broke E’s neck, legitimately. The stiff landing led the Medics immediately to come over and tend to Big E while Kingston finished the match.

Kofi was also the one to suffer the pin-fall loss during that match on WWE Smackdown via a brogue kick from Sheamus. After the match, Kofi also received a beatdown from the debutant Butch. Once the TV angle ended, E was stretchered out by medics.

Big E kept his spirits up after WWE Smackdown

The top WWE Smackdown Superstar later took to Twitter and posted a selfie video to announce that he suffered a broken neck after getting thrown by Holland in an awkward way.

“I can’t thank all of you beautiful people enough, for all of your concern, and your messages, it’s very heart-warming,” Big E stated while being in a neck brace. “I can move all my digits [fingers], you see that? That’s nice, it’s always a good thing.

Strength feels fine, but unfortunately, right now, they tell me my neck is broken. So there’s that. But once again, thank you, everybody. I’m gonna be alright, I’ll be good. Don’t worry, go to sleep, don’t worry about ‘ol me. But for real, thank you and I appreciate all of you, for real.”
