WWE Smackdown had listed a match for the latest bygone July 29 episode in the form of Lacey Evans vs. Aliyah. However, that match never took place and Aliyah rather took on Shotzi in an impromptu matchup to come up short.
No particular reason was given by the WWE as to why the originally announced matchup was canceled. But WWE commentator Michael Cole said Lacey Evans was not medically cleared to compete on WWE SmackDown and that’s why never showed up on TV. There’s no update available on whether this injury is legit or not.
As noted, Evans was replaced by Shotzi who renewed her rivalry with Aliyah and squashed her only in a couple of minutes. She attempted to cut a promo but which was eventually interrupted by Ronda Rousey. Moving on, WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan also showed up after Rousey cleared the ring by taking out Shotzi.
Lacey Evans returned on WWE Smackdown after Wrestlemania 38
After a hiatus of more than a year, Lacey Evans made her return to WWE TV during the post-WrestleMania 38 edition of WWE SmackDown on FOX, last April. She appeared in a pre-recorded vignette to build her as a babyface character. WWE focused on her mariner background and how she served her nation before becoming a professional wrestler.
Just a couple of weeks later, PWInsider reported that Evans has been moved to the RAW brand internally. It was also noted that she will be working as a heel on the red brand. Then, her position was switched back on WWE Smackdown where she solidified the heel turn.
It happened on the July 8th episode of WWE SmackDown where Evans was supposed to be Aliyah’s tag team partner in a match against Natalya and Shayna Baszler but instead, she hit Aliyah with the Woman’s Right.
The storyline is currently progressing in a way where Evans has been telling the crowd that she was disgusted by their response while she requires a standing ovation for all her past works. She also said that all the fans can go to hell until she gets the proper respect. Evans was last seen in action at the Money in the Bank 2022 ladder match in earlier July.
