WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus built up her legacy at the toughest time when WWE had the least to offer for the women superstars. She had been part of multiple memorable storylines including one romantic angle featuring Christian and Chris Jericho. During that storyline, Vince McMahon admittedly booked a ‘swerve’ at the Grandest Stage of them All.
The unexpected incident happened at WrestleMania 20 that led Trish Stratus to go in an entirely different direction than what was initially expected. Vince McMahon has some original plans for the storyline months in advance, but those plans went out the window at the last minute and in fact, on the day of WrestleMania’s 2004 edition.

Vince McMahon canceled the idea of making Trish Stratus and Chris Jericho an on-screen couple
According to Trish Stratus, the original plan called for her and Jericho to become an on-screen couple and don comedic characters. The duo was also supposed to be known as “Trishtopher”. However, McMahon, the undisputed head of the creative team had a change of heart about the angle on the day of WrestleMania as he wanted to swerve the fans by Christian getting the girl, instead.
During a recent appearance on the Getting Over podcast, Trish Stratus explained what went down on that day. She revealed the situation to be “crazy” and that McMahon actually pulled the plug on an unexpected idea,
“When Vince came to us, the night of WrestleMania, and said, ‘I think we’re going to change things up. We’re going to have…’ and he explained I would go heel. ‘What? This is so many months of storyline to get to this moment.’ We were excited about it. We thought fans wanted this, and they did, and that’s why he changed it. Fans wanted it so bad, he thought no one ever expected me to turn. For me, personally, it was a great moment and I was able to turn.”
Christian and Trish Stratus continued as a couple for several weeks until Christian was sidelined with an injury for months. The former Women’s Champion also admitted that Christian’s injury actually helped her character since she got herself elevated as a singles performer, that’s to become “the one” instead of “a side piece”. She also praised Jericho as she was a great storyteller to help her grow as a wrestler.
