The feud between Trish Stratus and Mickie James in the years 2005-06 is considered to be one of the most iconic feuds to be produced in the history of professional wrestling. Back then, women could barely get TV times let alone proper wrestling matches except for a one-off occasion. Kudos to the above-mentioned names they have earned a title match for the WWE Women’s Championship during that phase.

Trish Stratus was among the top female stars during the mid-2000s and Mickie James made her debut as an obsessive fan of hers. This happened at a point when the then multi-time women’s champion was approaching a phase of leaving the WWE. James being a die-hard fan of the Canadian legend also led to a romantic angle between the two superstars.

Trish Stratus and Mickie James even got intimate during their angle

The two once kissed each other on WWE TV to insinuate more mind games and animosity. Eventually, the feud culminated in a match at WrestleMania 22 between the two which was also the first Women’s Title singles contest at the grandest stage of them all. Eventually, Mickie won that highly anticipated showdown, to win her first-ever Women’s title and seemingly received the torch from Trish Stratus.

Mickie James wanted to be a fan of Lita instead of Trish Stratus

During an appearance on GAW TV hosted by SoCal Val, former WWE Superstar Victoria, and herself, James revealed that she didn’t initially want to be the die-hard fan of Trish Stratus for their classic storyline in the WWE. She rather targeted another contemporary WWE Hall of Famer.

“I initially pitched it for Lita,” the six-time WWE Women’s Champion said. “Because I had a history with Lita or whatever. I remember everyone worked on it. You [former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz] worked on that story and stuff with me.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)

During an interview from last year, Trish Stratus revealed that both herself and James received a standing ovation after they returned to the gorilla position following their title match at WrestleMania 22. It was also later noted that fellow WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix was set to play a key role in her storyline with James after the show of shows but she sustained an injury and things were scrapped.
