This year’s Royal Rumble PPV has over-delivered to the expectations. Unlike last year’s edition, the men’s division matchup was not as much of a star-studded affair, but it was a compact contest with several pleasant surprises in-store. Names from the NXT and the veterans like Hurricane and Rey Mysterio were the biggest additions to the Rumble match.
However, the crowd was much pleased to get rid of the curse they had in 2015. Roman Reigns stood in the middle of the ring once again going to win the match to the disgust of Philly, but they were pleased to see Nakamura eliminating him and go on to the main event of Wrestlemania 34.
Wow, hell of a first ever Women’s Rumble match, I honestly was skeptical of the call to end the show with it and I was totally wrong, between the nostalgia acts and current talent they did just an incredible job, great call to have Asuka win #RoyalRumble

The women’s matchup were filled up with plenty of surprise names including Hall of Famer appearances like Lita or Trish Stratus. But, the biggest surprise was kept in-store at the very end of the match when Asuka, the expected winner made history by winning the contest. Ronda Rousey came which was much-anticipated for the fans hinting that she will perform at this year’s Wrestlemania over the championship.
The prime title matches were kept short so that more focus can be given on the two Royal Rumble matches which is understandable. Both Lesnar and Styles emphatically retained the title. They are not likely to drop these championships until Wrestlemania.
