The match card for the 33rd annual Survivor Series event is gradually being built as the event approaches closer.

WWE has kept the Brand vs. Brand theme intact for this special show of the year as Raw and SmackDown look forward to going into a war to reign supreme over each other.

Additionally, the NXT brand will also be involved in the competition that makes things interesting.

Huge spoiler from Survivor Series

As noted on this week’s episode of SmackDown, the WWE Universal Championship match is now official for Survivor Series which is also being rumored to be the main event of the night.

But the original plans were certainly different around this matchup as WWE planned a title alteration prior to the PPV. But they decided to take the easy route, instead.

According to the reports of Wrestling Observer, WWE originally planned a different Universal Title match for Survivor Series.

“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt vs. The Miz for the Universal Championship and AJ Styles vs. Roderick Strong vs. Daniel Bryan in a triple threat should have been kept on the PPV match card at last ‘big-four’ PPV event of the year. Here’s how the match would have been set up,

“For Bryan to be included in the United States Champion vs. NXT North American Champion vs. Intercontinental Champion match, the plan was for Bryan to defeat Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental Championship on an episode of SmackDown and get inserted into this match.” (courtesy wwfoldschool.com)

The storylines have also begun, accordingly so that they could culminate at Survivor Series. The Miz was scheduled to host a Miz TV edition with Bray Wyatt whereas Nakamura also entered an angle with Daniel Bryan.

However, WWE then decided to drop The Fiend vs. The Miz storyline for some unknown reasons.  This prevented Bryan from winning the Intercontinental Championship from Nakamura.

Consequence wise, WWE began a feud between The Fiend and Daniel Bryan. As of now, these two are now set to deliver a fresh matchup which would become the first title defense for The Fiend at Survivor Series.
