Going by the earlier reports, Braun Strowman was all set to face Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at the TLC PPV. But that match didn’t happen, as per the plans due to the injury that happened to the behemoth challenger. It’s unclear how bad Strowman is hurt and exactly what he’s suffering from. But the good news is that the injury isn’t that terrible.
During Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez noted that Braun Strowman is injured but he isn’t scheduled for surgery, right now. It means that he wouldn’t necessarily have to go under the knives which reduces the severity of the injury. He is rather started a rehabbing procedure to fix the issue. There are some obvious hopes that he’ll return sooner than later.

Braun Strowman: Update On How Long The Monster Would Be Out Of WWE Action
In the meantime, WWE has written him off RAW with an “indefinite suspension,”
“The story, as noted, is that Braun was scheduled to face Drew McIntyre at TLC but he got the leg injury and he is rehabbing it. I didn’t hear anything about surgery, just that they are rehabbing it. Presumably, he won’t be out that long but I guess we’ll see.”
That suspension storyline could eventually produce a monstrous return, down the line. Braun Strowman could end up invading the flagship show when he’s not supposed to be there. But it will depend on how quickly he can recover from the injured. Once the doctors clear him to compete, he could make a return to the ring, perhaps with the pledge of facing the WWE Champion.
As of this writing, there is no return timetable is available for the Monster Among Men, but the positive thing about the injury is the fact that he is avoiding surgery. This is certainly a good sign for the former Universal Champion who’s been converted into a heel, again. His absence has caused a sudden change in the top level of the RAW roster heading into TLC.
According to the previous reports from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Braun Strowman possibly suffered the knee injury during the Raw vs SmackDown elimination match at Survivor Series pay-per-view, although it’s not a confirmed news. The tournament and then a Triple Threat Match to determine a new challenger for the WWE Championship at TLC was a last-minute idea because Strowman was ruled out of the PPV, by then.
