WWE hoped Lana to enter The Rumble
“For those who have asked about whether there were any surprises that were planned at one point, the only thing we have heard is that at one point, WWE had reached out to the former Lana, CJ Perry about making a surprise appearance in the Women’s Rumble match, but obviously, it never happened.
There were some in the company who thought that as late as the week of the Rumble that it was happening, but as they got closer to the PPV, her name was no longer mentioned,” the source mentioned in their report.
Lana wasn’t discussed, backstage during the Rumble event. But a last-minute addition to the Women’s Rumble match was Molly Holly as her ‘Mighty Molly’ character. This was done to build up Nikki A.S.H. as a strong heel character by attacking Molly who barely could compete in the match.
Reports previously noted how WWE flew in several extra talents just in case someone didn’t pass their medical protocols. Names like Jillian Hall and Aksana made it clear through their social media posts that they were at the venue but they never appeared on television.
Lana was released by WWE in June 2021 due to the COVID-19 related budget cuts. There’s no update available on whether WWE intends to bring her back in the near future but she isn’t signed to any promotion, as of this writing.
