WWE future of Rey Mysterio Jr. has been pretty uncertain over the course of the past several months. He has not signed a new deal once the previous one with the company expired. The negotiation process is going on for a long time and the main reason that he didn’t sign with WWE, is money. He needs more as per the previous reports but Vince McMahon isn’t ready.
The latest updates have mentioned that both WWE and AEW have tried to rope him in recent weeks as both the organizations have to make strong offers to claim his services in the future.
Update On Rey Mysterio’s WWE Future
Rey Mysterio recently “lost an eye” at WWE’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view against Seth Rollins. This angle has already made the groundworks ready for WWE to write him out of storylines if he did not re-sign a deal with the company. But it seems that WWE would be able to retain the 45-year-old free agent who’s still in demand.
While Rey Mysterio is yet to put his sign on paper, chances for him remaining with the company is said to be a done deal. Dominik Mysterio just starting his career in the brand should be the main reason why his father would choose to stay, here.
“It’s as close to official without confirmation of it being official, and obviously Dominik is a big part of that deal,” informed Dave Meltzer in his reports via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. “AEW made an offer that equaled the WWE’s per-match offer, but the WWE offer was higher because it was for more dates.”
CM Punk Wants Rey Mysterio To Shave Seth Rollins’ Head At WWE Summerslam
But AEW seems highly interested to have the Master of 619 on their roster. “The one thing Chris Jericho and I can agree on is that there is nobody greater than Rey Mysterio,” said AEW’s Cody Rhodes while speaking with Si.com.
Meanwhile, WWE Raw Superstar Kevin Owens has high praise for Rey Mysterio while giving an interview with ESPN, “I just watch him, the kind of person he is, and I learn because that’s the kind of legacy I want to leave behind in wrestling. “His son is now getting involved and it’s been great to see his son around. He’s everything a wrestling veteran should be.”
No confirmed details are available regarding the length of a future deal that Rey Mysterio is being offered to sign. It is expected to be within a span of 18 months to 5 years. His previous contract also lasted for 18 months, apparently. Whereas the confusion regarding his dad continues, Dominik is getting ready to face Seth Rollins at SummerSlam in his first professional wrestling match on TV.
