WWE tag team title unification match was an integral part of Wrestlemania Backlash 2022 build following the Show of Shows. The match between the two respective tag champs of Raw and Smackdown was also announced for the latest bygone PPV event. But ultimately, it didn’t become a reality and it did upset a lot of fans.
Replacing the WWE tag team title unification match at WrestleMania Backlash was an entertaining six-man tag team non-title contest between The Bloodline and RK-Bro and Drew McIntyre. However, on this week’s Raw, Randy Orton and Riddle announced that they still wanted to unify the titles.
Current updates claim that WWE is still planning on having the match between RK-Bro and The Usos, but the company may not necessarily host the tag team title unification match capacity, according to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

The source made it pretty clear that those plans can still change given how volatile WWE’s creative things are but the current idea is for RK-Bro and The Usos to compete in a huge matchup. But WWE still does not want to unify the RAW and SmackDown Tag Team Championships. This also means that if the tag team title unification match happens then it would receive some sort of DQ finish.
“So, this is what I was told on this. They are going to do the match, but as of right now, and I was also told this can change, but, they are not planning on actually unifying the titles. But, they are planning on doing the match,” Meltzer reported about a potential WWE tag team title unification match.”
“So, I don’t know if that means another run-in DQ. They obviously can always change their mind, but they are right now planning on doing the match. I’m presuming it’s going to be the next pay-per-view. That, I don’t know for sure.” (transcription by Ringside News)
Over on Raw, Team RK-Bro made it clear that they still want the tag team title unification match to happen with The Usos. They successfully defended their titles against The Street Profits, the focus for them was to go to SmackDown and then confront The Usos to make the match a reality. WWE’s next premium live event is Hell In A Cell, next month and hence that event seems to be a suitable place for the match to be slotted.
