Roman Reigns has been residing on top of the WWE roster for the past couple of years. He’s been the Universal champion in WWE for over 2 years now. At WWE Payback on August 30, 2020, he defeated Braun Strowman and The Fiend Bray Wyatt to win the Universal Championship. His status was even upped earlier this year during WWE’s Biggest Premium Live Event of the Year.
At WrestleMania 38 on April 3, 2022, Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Championship, thus becoming the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. He’s the first dual champion to achieve the accolade since the Universal Title was introduced in 2016.
Roman Reigns’ Next Title Match Opponent In WWE Not Decided Yet
Many fans thought that The Tribal Chief will lose the Undisputed Title to Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle in the United Kingdom, given that the event took place in the latter’s home country. However, that didn’t happen as the debuting Solo Sikoa helped the champion to retain. WWE is reportedly having a solid reason behind making that decision.
WWE Extreme Rules 2022: Spoiler On Main Event Match In Roman Reigns’ Absence
Roman Reigns slated for another headliner match at WrestleMania 39
According to Wrestling News, Triple H is sticking with the original plans sketched by Vince McMahon for Roman Reigns as he heads into WrestleMania 39. It’s likely that the Dream Match against The Rock will ultimately be happening at the Show of Shows,
“Someone familiar with the creative process told that nothing has changed (in regards to Roman Reigns) and there are still no plans for him to lose the Title this year.
When Reigns turned heel in 2020, the plan at the time was for him to be the champion when he eventually wrestled The Rock, and Vince McMahon wanted Reigns to retain the Title and the idea was, and still is, for Reigns to become a top babyface.”
While things are yet to be confirmed, the original plan could have called for Roman Reigns to win the match against The Great One where the older generation will put over the newer generation. Right after this match against The Rock, he’s scheduled to lose the Undisputed WWE World Title if the plan will be followed.
In the meantime, Roman Reigns continues to set new records with almost every passing week. The reigning champion hasn’t been pinned or submitted in WWE for 1,000 days. His last pin-fall loss took place on December 15, 2019, at the TLC 2019 pay-per-view, where he got pinned by Baron Corbin. He did end up losing matches but mostly The Usos digested the loss in tag team matches.
