Extreme Rules 2022 is going to be the next WWE Network Specials in the premium live event calendar of the company. As reported earlier, the Wrestling Observer already reported that Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is not currently scheduled to compete at the event set for October 8th.
The initial promotional graphic for Extreme Rules 2022 is already out and we couldn’t spot the dual champion on it, either. The absence comes as he enjoys a limited schedule with the WWE, these days. So, after performing in two consecutive stadium shows, it’s time for him to have a break.
Spoiler On Roman Reigns’ Next Undisputed WWE Universal Title Defense
If things are right then, Roman Reigns will be back for his next Title defense which is scheduled to be on November 5th at the Crown Jewel premium live event in Saudi Arabia. That being said, WWE has to offer a backup main event match for Extreme Rules 2022.
Fresh main event match set to headline Extreme Rules 2022?
According to Xero News, WWE is planning to book Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross as the main event of the latest upcoming PLE in October. WWE has already been building towards this match since the post-SummerSlam episode of SmackDown in August where Kross made a shocking return and took out McIntyre with a sneak attack.
Kross and Scarlett were also present at Clash At The Castle at ringside for the main event match to hint that a battle between the two could be waiting at Extreme Rules 2022. During the Undisputed Title match, Kross even threw a water bottle at McIntyre to distract The Scottish Warrior. The Tribal Chief took advantage and laid out Drew at ringside at that point.
Ultimately, Roman Reigns defeated Drew McIntyre to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, and thus Reigns’ 2+ year title reign continues in the WWE. At one point, many believed that the following Clash at the Castle, Roman Reigns vs. Karrion Kross would be the headliner feud for Extreme Rules 2022 but the absence of the champion must have pushed that match, indefinitely.
Extreme Rules 2022 premium live event is scheduled to take place on October 8 from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. To date, no matches have officially been announced by the WWE for the upcoming event.
