Sami Zayn is currently acting as Shinsuke Nakamura’s mouthpiece on SmackDown.
He is quite good with the mic without a doubt and WWE is taking full advantage of it bringing out the very best heel promos out of him. But some fans can’t help wondering why he isn’t wrestling.
After all, he’s one of the most technically gifted athletes in the company.
There is a very good reason for that as the officials may still be having doubts about his in-ring status.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that Sami Zayn is still having trouble with his shoulders. It is less than a year since he had double shoulder surgery before he returned to action, earlier this year.
It happened following Wrestlemania 35 which was supposed to be a big moment for him.
Sami Zayn was reportedly ready to get a big push but WWE had no plans to use him in a wrestling capacity. It is said that “he’s okay” and he can wrestle.
But WWE is placing him in this non-wrestling role since they are much protective when it comes to severe injuries. So he can’t expect to feature in a match unless the officials feel, he’s needed.
“Sami Zayn was having trouble with his shoulders in recent months. This is why he’s been wrestling less and managing Nakamura, instead. But we’re told he’s okay now and can wrestle but this is the role they have him in.”
So basically, there’s an injury issue related to Sami Zayn which is forcing him to sit out of the competition. When it comes to his pro-wrestling career, it’s more than a decade long and hence, he had an illustrious history of injuries. But the shoulder injury is perhaps the most fatal one that he suffered.
The issue might be continuing, to date. But at present circumstances, it won’t keep him out of the ring if WWE needs him.
As seen in the post-Crown Jewel episode of SmackDown, he took bumps for Matt Riddle and Keith Lee.
It proves that he’s ready to feature in competition but WWE does not seem to be ready to use him, yet.
