Over the past several months, a reported tug of war broke out between WWE and AEW around Renee Young. It was rumored that WWE was interested in bringing back the former popular female wrestling journalist at the time of the season premiere for all their weekly programming. However, their efforts went in vain since the renowned face denied making the comeback despite the reported interest in her.
It was speculated that Renee Young turned down her former employer to share Wednesday nights with her husband, Jon Moxley and that was the apparent choice that she made. AEW President Tony Khan himself announced on October 12 that the journo, real name Renee Paquette has signed with the company. Khan also said a sooner on-screen debut was in-store for her.

Then just like in a perfect world, Renee Young debuted in her hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada amid loud cheers from the crowd. She started her stint by interviewing another Canadian wrestler, Christian Cage.
Before coming to AEW, Renee Young worked as an interviewer in WWE, the same role she’s been assigned to the AEW after her debut. She also has the experience of doing commentary on Raw to become the first-time female personality to do so.
Renee Young not ruling out a return to commentary in the future for AEW
In her first appearance on ‘The Sessions’ podcast since her AEW debut happened, the former WWE personality was asked if she’d again feature in the commentary role in AEW. In response, she stated the following,
“No. I shouldn’t say no, but I also feel like anyone who just heard you [co-host Emilio Sparks] ask, probably had the same reaction. ‘No thanks, we don’t need that. We don’t want that.’ And that’s always how I felt about it… People had such a negative reaction to it, and it just wasn’t the thing that I wanted it to be.”
While being in WWE, Renee Young was pretty vocal about not having a good time during her time on the commentary table, especially with Vince McMahon in her ears, all the time. For AEW, too she isn’t interested in featuring in the role, but ultimately it depends on how the instance will be presented to her,
“If the opportunity made sense and it was something that everyone was on the same page about, maybe, but I just don’t see that being what I want to do.”
Renee Young arrived at the AEW after leaving WWE, two years ago. Speaking about signing with AEW during her podcast session, she said that it was basically her husband [AEW World Champion Jon Moxley] who made the contract signing happen as he’s very good friends with AEW President Tony Khan.
