On an eventful episode of SmackDown on December 30, Ronda Rousey defeated Raquel Rodriguez to successfully defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Charlotte Flair then returned to WWE programming after a gap of eight months for the first time since WrestleMania Backlash to challenge the champion and the latter was apparently still feeling spicy enough to compete in a second title match.
So it was pretty easy for Flair who pinned Ronda Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship with a roll-up and become a 14-time World Champion excluding the NXT Women’s Title wins. This switch in the title was a pretty feel-good moment for the WWE Universe as they were bored of seeing the former champion’s title reign. This is the reason that she was converted into a babyface in the first place.
Wrestlemania 39: Ronda Rousey Currently Planned To Face Top WWE Raw Superstar
PWInsider has now reported that the 14-time Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair is internally listed as a babyface on the SmackDown roster. This is pretty surprising given that she was the one to have earned a natural heel heat in the past. But now Ronda Rousey is securing the position with Shayna Baszler by her side. She is also planned to be on TV in the near future.
Ronda Rousey is advertised through WWE Live Events in WrestleMania season
Regarding the status of The Baddest Woman On The Planet, the report stated that her loss wasn’t designed to write her off TV despite the fact that she wasn’t there to show up on SmackDown in the latest episode. While no particular details haven’t been revealed, there is a plan for Ronda Rousey to perform at the Royal Rumble premium live event on January 28. No update was there regarding the match.
PWInsider added that sources claimed that this isn’t a situation where Ronda Rousey will be heading into another break from in-ring competition after dropping the title as she did at WrestleMania 35. She is currently being advertised for upcoming WWE live events, and those aren’t likely to change given that WrestleMania season will commence in full force. The word is that the only UFC Hall of Famer will continue to “be in the mix.”
Ronda Rousey won her second SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Extreme Rules premium live event which lasted for 83 days before dropping it to Charlotte Flair. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s original plans for her current run were for her to face Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 38 and then Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 39. But the latter match has now reportedly been scrapped.
