After waiting for almost three months, WWE finally put together a tournament to crown new Women’s Tag Team Champions. During the latest episode of WWE SmackDown, Michael Cole announced that a tournament for the currently vacant titles will begin this coming WWE Raw. However, no matches, teams, or brackets were revealed.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships have been vacant since the former champions Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of WWE Raw during the episode of May 16. While leaving, they also reportedly left their title belts on the desk of then-Executive Vice President of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis who was later let go from his position.
AJ Lee Kept Her Retirement From WWE A Secret Until The Very Last Moment
During the next Friday’s SmackDown, Michael Cole confirmed that Banks and Naomi had walked out of the WWE and their unprofessional actions had let the fans down. WWE immediately stripped them of the tag team and thereby suspended both of them, indefinitely.
Sasha Banks and Naomi could return to women’s tag team titles tournament
Since then, a lot of things have changed in the WWE. For the first time in more than four decades, we have WWE without Vince McMahon in charge. Within the past month, WWE Chairman & CEO Vince announced his retirement and resigned from all positions he held in the company, including his role as Head of Creative. This came after investigations are going into hush-money payments made to former female employees of the WWE to keep secret affairs under the wrap.
The Wrestling Observer has recently reported that the current Head Of Creative Triple H and WWE CEO Stephanie McMahon are now trying to get Sasha Banks and Naomi back since their issues were mainly with Vince McMahon. Since they are imminently expected to return, who knows whether they will be a part of the women’s tag team tournament or not?
The Los Angeles Rams announced earlier this week that Sasha Banks would be a part of their 2022 Celebrity Flag Football Game as part of Team Donald. However, she was pulled from this game, which had begun speculation that the former women’s tag team champion could be on her way back to WWE on the post-SummerSlam episode of Smackdown. But that wasn’t the case.
We expect to learn more details on the situation on this week’s episode of WWE Raw when the women’s tag team tournament will eventually begin.
