In April, on an episode of Raw, Triple H brought back the World Heavyweight Championship with a brand new design. Initially, it was thought to be carrying the legacy of the former Big Gold Belt in the WCW promotion. But that’s not the case as the current champion is being touted as the first-ever holder of the belt.

The crowning match for the new World Heavyweight Championship went down at Night of Champions premium live event in Saudi Arabia on May 27th where Seth Rollins defeated AJ Styles to become the first-ever champion and started a legacy of his own by becoming a superstar who had participated in three different inaugural championship matches in his career.

World Heavyweight Championship: Major Heel-Turn Coming On WWE Raw In 2023 Summer? 1

As noted by Triple H during the inauguration of the World Heavyweight Championship, it was stated that it will be the main title of the Raw brand and a workhorse title since the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is on SmackDown with an irregular schedule. Already Rollins defended his title on Raw against Damian Priest and then against Finn Balor at MITB. Moving on, another solid feud could be waiting for the champion, this summer.

Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship planned for this summer?

According to the reports of Xero News, WWE Officials are discussing a babyface Seth Rollins taking on a heel Drew McIntyre in one of the first feuds for the new World Heavyweight Championship on Raw. Despite his long absence from the WWE programming, McIntyre was drafted to Raw during the Draft. He’s currently one of the top babyfaces of the WWE roster but making him heel would be a big change for his in-ring character.

McIntyre was last seen on WWE programming at WrestleMania 39 before his MITB return, where he was pinned by Gunther in the Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship. With Money in the Bank coming to the United Kingdom this July, it seems appropriate that WWE could be planning to bring him back for a World Heavyweight Championship.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter previously provided an update about Drew McIntyre and indicated that his return was blocked due to a creative issue,

“At this point, McIntyre’s return is basically more a creative issue regarding what they want, what he wants, and when they agree to it. Regarding the potential of his leaving, the time he has been out of action can be used to freeze and extend his contract if WWE so desires.”
