With Wrestlemania 38 coming up within a few days, there were plans within the WWE to reunite the top faction on Friday nights. The big event was supposed to mark the reunion for The New Day for a six-man tag team match, but that bout may not happen due to Big E suffering an injury on this past edition of Smackdown. The powerhouse of New Day suffered a broken neck and he’s likely to be out of action for some time.
As seen on Smackdown that took place from the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, Sheamus and Ridge Holland introduced Pete Dunne as their new partner for them, billed as the newest protégé of The Celtic Warrior. The former NXT Superstar also received a new name in “Butch” who was also sporting a new look. Apparently, there was a plan to involve him at Wrestlemania 38 for that tag team match.

Sheamus and Holland went on to defeat Kofi Kingston and Big E in a tag team action due to Butch’s distraction to Kingston from the apron. Big E was down at ringside at that point as he was being checked out by medics after suffering a crash-landing on his head by Holland.
Afterward, it was revealed that Big E had to be stretchered out of the arena since he legitimately suffered a broken neck after digesting that belly-to-belly suplex from Holland on the floor. It was at this moment that plans for a Wrestlemania 38 match could have been scrapped.
Big E is likely to miss Wrestlemania 38
WWE intentionally called Butch up from NXT to SmackDown for a six-man WrestleMania 38 feud, according to the reports PWInsider. Sheamus, Holland, and Butch were supposed to team up against The New Day – Big E, Kingston, and Xavier Woods.
Given Big E’s broken neck, that match remains up in the air. There’s no update available on how long he will be out of action and whether WWE plans to host a standard tag team match if the former WWE Champion is unable to compete at the Show of Shows.
PWInsider added that there was a lot of backstage concern after E’s injury on Smackdown he showed a lot of positive energy on the posted video on Twitter to make things a bit alleviated. We expect more updates on the situation on the Road to Wrestlemania 38.
