Wrestlemania 38 is being promoted as the two-most stupendous nights in the history of the sports entertainment business. With the event getting hosted from Dallas, Texas everything seems to be bigger than the previous occasions. Multiple returns are expected to happen on the show including one former Intercontinental Champion in Cody Rhodes.
For weeks now, there have been speculations about the Grandson of a Plumber coming back home in the WWE in time for Wrestlemania 38 after his deal with AEW is over. On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that plans regarding him have changed, again.
As of this past Friday’s edition of SmackDown, he was on the internal roster with creative being ready for his return. However, things have lately fallen apart which could be the reason why everything related to his future is up in the air.

Wrestlemania 38: The Rhodes’ speculations continue to spread
The ongoing talks between Rhodes and WWE are not considered to be over but rather the return should be a case of waiting and seeing how things play out. WWE thought they had the former AEW Executive Vice President onboard, possibly for Wrestlemania 38 but they are currently unsure about him.
“They don’t know what’s going on with Cody Rhodes. They’re not sure. We’ll have to wait and see how that plays out. It’s up in the air. They don’t know.
They thought they had him. It’s not like’s it’s dead, it’s not like they think they don’t have him but they are not sure. So, that’s the situation with Cody.”
From the beginning of the Wrestlemania 38 season, there have been conflicting reports regarding the former three-time AEW TNT Champion since he surprised everyone by leaving All Elite Wrestling. Rhodes himself didn’t make any public statement regarding his future plans in wrestling. There are chances that he might stop competing forever while he may end up returning to AEW, too given that the promotion has recently taken over Ring of Honor.
“Everyone in the world thinks that Cody runs Ring of Honor or something,” Meltzer noted while responding to a question on whether Rhodes will end up returning to AEW to have a run for ROH “I suppose there’s a way to do that angle and everything like that, you know? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.”
