The storyline around Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar was reportedly always directed towards Wrestlemania 38. But it went through massive changes after what transpired at Day 1 back on January 1 which was the first PPV event of 2022. Roman was taken out of the PPV card and thereby his scheduled title match against the beast as he was diagnosed with COVID-19 prior to that event.
Lesnar then went on to become the new WWE Champion which belongs to the Raw roster. Since both of them have become world champions in the WWE and reports still claimed that a match between the two has still been penciled in for Wrestlemania 38, many believed that a title vs. title match showdown could take place in April. But recent reports claim that this high stake won’t be there when the match actually happens.
Royal Rumble 2022: Top WWE Raw Superstar Returning For Women’s Rumble
On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer answered a mailbag question about a recent segment where WWE hinted at the possibility of seeing a Champion vs. Champion match at Wrestlemania 38. This occurred after their SmackDown confrontation following WWE Day 1. However, Meltzer was told there are no plans to have both the belts on the line during the upcoming matchup.

Champion vs. Champion match not happening at Wrestlemania 38
The veteran source instead hinted that the segment was just done at the time because they both had the belts around their shoulder. So, WWE went ahead to tease it anyway whereas, in reality, the company won’t move into that direction for Wrestlemania 38,
“Lesnar and Reigns are going to have a match. I think we’ll have a lot better idea of what’s gonna happen after the Royal Rumble. But, if Seth wins and then Lesnar’s wrestling Roman, I would presume Roman beats him to win a belt back. Because Lesnar’s not going to be around long-term and Roman will be around every week.”
The next bout between The Beast Incarnate and The Tribal Chief is targeted for the Biggest Event of the year and we’re likely to get a clear idea about the stakes once Royal Rumble 2022 passes by.
Roman will be defending his Universal Championship against his former Shield partner Seth Rollins. Rumors had that Roman could be dropping his title to Rollins and then go after Lesnar at Wrestlemania 38 for the WWE Title. Meanwhile, Lesnar will be putting his WWE Title on the line against Bobby Lashley in a dream match at Rumble and he’s rumored to come out of the show as still the champion.
