Wrestlemania 38 could have been the celebration of the top-most female resident superstars in the WWE, today. A plan within the WWE called for a huge headliner match which was ultimately called off, as per the revelation made by a former WWE writer.
WWE had “seriously” considered a Fatal-4-Way Match featuring the Four Horsewomen, namely RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, and Bayley at WrestleMania 38, according to Louis Dangoor of GiveMeSport (who also used to work as a WWE writer in the recent past).
It was noted in the report that the plan was for the blockbuster match to bring a grand end to the Night One of Wrestlemania 38 scheduled from the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Plus, both the Women’s Titles would be up for grabs in a “Winner Takes All” scenario, much like the first-ever all-women ‘Mania main event, three years ago.
Roonda Rousey’s return canceled a big match at Wrestlemania 38
Dangoor also revealed that WWE moved away from the match “for a number of reasons, the main one centered around Ronda Rousey.” He noted that Rousey had previously ruled out returning at WrestleMania 38 in December, which led to the pitch within WWE creative of having a Four Horsewomen dream bout at Wrestlemania 38.
But then Ronda Rousey confirmed her availability for the big event as WWE had to make drastic changes to the Wrestlemania 38 card to make slots available for her. As a result, she ended up winning the Women’s Royal Rumble match and punched her ticket to the Biggest Event of the Year.
“It’s an unspoken bond,” Charlotte Flair previously said about the unspoken bond between WWE’s Four Horsewomen. “Our careers have all taken different turns and ended up in different spots in different times. The level of respect is always there, no matter what. You just don’t… maybe we should talk about it more, but we all know how we feel about each other, what we did, and what it took, and how hard we worked to get where we are.”
