WWE is possibly looking to insert a top match for the WrestleMania 38 card as a replacement for Shane McMahon’s absence. As reported earlier, the prodigal son of WWE returned to action during Royal Rumble match on January 29 but he’s no more with the company, as of now.

Reports claimed that WWE had plans for Shane to work Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania 38, but those plans were nixed due to the backstage heat he picked up during the Royal Rumble match. WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon made the decision to release his son from his existing contract. Shane was only working a talent but he was chosen to be one of the producers for that night, only.

A new report from @WrestleVotes has surfaced that notes that Shane’s match was going to be positioned near the top of the WrestleMania 38 card. Rumors suggested he was planned to compete in a match against Seth Rollins. Some of the wild speculations also claimed that he could have been chosen as WWE Champion Bobby Lashley’s opponent.

Replacement match for Shane McMahon to be announced at Wrestlemania 38

Due to Shane being taken off the WrestleMania 38 card, WWE officials are now looking for a new “major attraction” match outside of the top title matches. “This goes without saying, but the WrestleMania card is still in complete flux. It’s quite amazing,” the report noted while the exact matchup planned, has not been revealed. Since we are barely 50 days away from the show, WWE internally has most of the matches figured out.

As noted, the WrestleMania 38 opponent for Shane was never confirmed, but he was pushing to have a program with Seth Rollins at one point. Since he was willing to work with young talents, he had also pitched a match against Austin Theory. Shane vs. current WWE Champion Bobby Lashley was also rumored but that report was denied as time progressed.
