Ronda Rousey dropped the SmackDown Women’s Championship in a shocking manner at the end of 2022 and headed for a hiatus. She was originally slated to lose the championship at the Royal Rumble PLE but plans mostly changed due to her time off which also fell in line with Charlotte Flair’s return to the company. Now, the Baddest Women on the Planet has returned and has a different championship in her sight.
If the ongoing reports are any indications then Ronda Rousey alongside Shayna Baszler is gunning for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles and this should set up a match at Wrestlemania 39 with the new champions, Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Lita. Not only that, there’s a chance that the new champs may end up dropping the belts at the grandest stage of them all.
WWE Smackdown: Ronda Rousey Dealing With Legit Injury; Update On Wrestlemania 39 Status

According to Wrestlingnews.co, Ronda Rousey has been pushing for WWE to put the spotlight on her close friend, fellow former UFC fighter Shayna Baszler. This genuinely calls for a championship change at the Showcase of Immortals. The report mentioned how Rousey wants to team up with Shayna and win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 39.

Ronda Rousey wants to become a new champion at Wrestlemania 39
Being one of the top performers of the WWE, Ronda Rousey does get what she wants and this title change also makes sense given that one of the current champions, Lita is a part-time performer and she’s not capable of constantly wrestling and defending the title. It was on the February 27 episode that Lita and Becky Lynch defeated Dakota Kai & IYO SKY of Damage CTRL to win the Women’s Tag Team Championship.

While nothing is confirmed, it is likely that the new champions will go through their first title defense at Wrestlemania 39 when they square off against Ronda Rousey and Shayna next month. Going by the above report, the two former MMA fighters are expected to walk out of the show as the new champions. Plus, Rousey and Baszler’s title run is also expected to last through the spring and summer of this year.
As of late November/early December, WWE had Rousey penciled in to defend the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley at Wrestlemania 39. But then Rousey turned her attention toward the tag titles. Making her the new tag champ could eventually be a smart move to bring back prestige to the belts.
