John Cena was last seen on WWE programming at SummerSlam 2021 in the main event match of the premium live event. After a hellacious battle, he lost to Roman Reigns in a Universal Championship match in that marquee match. Afterward, he was back to participate in a house show in September at Madison Square Garden but that wasn’t a televised appearance.
Fans have been since waiting for John Cena to return to the ring. It’s been more than 450 days that the former franchise player of the company remains out of action. But the good thing is that he noted during an interview that he’s not done with wrestling and will come back for more matches whenever his Hollywood schedule allows him to do so.

According to Wrestlevotes, John Cena’s next match is expected to take place at WrestleMania 39 (aka WrestleMania Hollywood). Being a megastar in the movie industry, it makes sense that WWE will try to bring him for a special match as a major attraction for the biggest premium live event of the year 2023.

Update on John Cena’s next match in WWE
“Cena should be there and Cena should be wrestling. I know he touches base every so often, and although Vince [McMahon] is out of the picture, Cena still has a love for this place. John Cena and Triple H have respect for each other,” WrestleVotes reported regarding John Cena’s next match in WWE.
“WrestleMania is still WrestleMania and it’s in Los Angeles. If Cena is legitimately trying to be ‘the next Rock’ you should perform at WrestleMania in Hollywood, and I think he’ll be there and I think it’ll be wrestling. I’ll leave it at that.”
There’s no confirmed update on whether John Cena will be available for the show slated from the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California but he is certainly open to the ideas pitched by the WWE creative. That being said, we can certainly hope to see him back on the Wrestlemania card after a hiatus of two years.
The Cenation Leader Cena last appeared on WWE programming on the June 27, 2022, episode of WWE Raw, to celebrate his 20th anniversary in the company. On that episode, a match between him and Austin Theory was teased in a backstage segment but nothing came out of it.
