Heading into this week’s Smackdown, Ronda Rousey had the fans believe that she was missing Wrestlemania 39 due to an ongoing injury. In an Instagram post, she informed of fracturing her elbow during a training session which was the supposed exact reason behind the absence.

This is what Rousey had to say about her injury and comeback,

“After thousands of dislocations (I thought not tapping out to armbars and tearing ligaments was cool in my teens), my elbow finally fractured simply by slapping the mat in Rockford, Illinois- right before Wrestlemania. The only thing saving these chicks now are the doctors not letting me compete. Well, ladies, they can’t keep me away forever, I’m not moping, vengeance is coming.”

However, a big swerve was reserved on last night’s Smackdown as Ronda Rousey had not only returned to TV but was also inserted into a match, right away. Instead of a title match, they’ll be part of a multi-woman tag team match that would possibly be contested to declare the new challengers for the women’s tag team titles.

Wrestlemania 39 Showcase setup began from last week’s Smackdown

It was last week on WWE SmackDown that the WrestleMania 39 Showcase tag team matches from both men’s and women’s divisions were announced in a fatal-4-way capacity. Shortly after, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez became the first team to qualify for the match by defeating Tegan Nox and Emma.

Then on the March 24, 2023, edition of Smackdown, Natalya, and Shotzi defeated Xia Li and Lacey Evans to emerge as the second team to qualify for the fatal-4-way. After connecting with the Hart Attack, Nattie made Li tap out to the Sharpshooter submission and punch their ticket to Wrestlemania 39.

Soon after the win, Ronda Rousey came out with Shayna Baszler and blasted the Las Vegas audience for entertaining them in UFC days. Baszler then confirmed that they will be participating in the fatal-4-way as the third team which means only one pair remains to be added to the fray.

WWE commentator Michael Cole mentioned that the final team will be declared, next week. Prior reports from WrestleVotes indicate that Carmella and Chelsea Green should be the last duo to compete in the fatal-4-way unless Mella is not dealing with any kind of injury.
