WrestleMania 39 is the WWE’s biggest show of the year where all the superstars from the roster will be gathered back to fill up the card and thereby live up to the hype of the Show of Shows. After Royal Rumble, the direction for the SmackDown Women’s Championship was set as the winner Rhea Ripley officially chose the champion Charlotte Flair to go after.

Asuka then won the Elimination Chamber to set up the Raw Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania 39 while Ronda Rousey is supposedly destined to team up with Shayna Baszler to battle for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, possibly against Becky Lynch and Lita. However, there was a time when Ronda wasn’t scheduled to go after the tag titles but plans changed in due course.

Apparently, Ronda Rousey vs. Rhea Ripley was slated to happen at WrestleMania 39. But plans changed when Charlotte Flair returned during the final SmackDown of 2022 and took away SmackDown Women’s Title from Ronda.

Ronda Rousey’s sudden hiatus changed plans for WrestleMania 39

In a follow-up, Sean Ross Sapp reported behind Fightful’s paywall that plans also changed after Ronda Rousey took some time off from WWE television in early January. That was also one of the reasons why Charlotte Flair ended up winning the title at the last minute.

“Ronda Rousey vs. Rhea Ripley, WrestleMania: Dating back to November, the creative plans for the Royal Rumble winner were effectively set. Rhea Ripley was set to win, and challenge the Smackdown Women’s Champion. At that time, it looked like that would be Ronda Rousey, who was slated to hold the Smackdown Title until April. When Rousey took time off, and Charlotte won the championship last-minute, creative plans were changed.”

Ronda Rousey coming for women’s tag titles

Then in early February, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler would challenge Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai and IYO Sky) for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 39. It was evident Since Ronda’s return, WWE quickly transitioned her into a legit tag team performer by tagging her up with Baszler instead of keeping her as a singles competitor.

Then, Lita and Becky Lynch defeated Damage CTRL members on the February 27 episode of Monday Night Raw for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Hence, if the above report is accurate then Ronda and Baszler will now face Lita and Lynch at WrestleMania 39 for the tag titles.
