Wrestlemania 39 may finally have the two top world titles back in the WWE scene. Since the year 2016, WWE had two top world titles in the main event scene of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown. WWE and Universal Titles have since been swapped on both the two main roster shows, until the spring of this year.

As seen in the main event of WrestleMania 38 – Night 2, Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar in a Champion vs. Champion matchup to unify the Universal Championship and the WWE Championship and thereby become the only world championship holder in the company. Being a Smackdown roster member, Raw has since been remaining without any top title-holder.

Wrestlemania 39 may end the tradition for good as the company may just decide to split the two titles, per the recent reports. Roman Reigns is called the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion but he still carries the two separate titles. WWE hasn’t introduced one single Undisputed Title, proving the speculations true that the two titles will be eventually separated.

Wrestlemania 39 may have two separate world title matches

According to WrestleVotes, WWE wants two Men’s World Champions heading into WrestleMania 39. But they are facing an issue and that’s not wanting to let Roman Reigns lose a match until the Show of Shows.

“The situation with the World Titles & Roman Reigns is ‘complex’ according to a source.

They would like to go into Mania season & WrestleMania itself with 2 champions, but they also don’t want Reigns losing AT ALL prior.

I’m told Triple H & co are open to all things creatively here.”

Roman Reigns has been enjoying a history-making run in WWE as the Undisputed Universal Champion. Since returning to WWE back in 2020, he’s become the longest-reigning champion of the modern era and he is also unlikely to drop his titles this year. Speculations suggest that The Rock vs. Roman Reigns may headline Wrestlemania 39 for the two top titles.

Until that match goes down, WWE doesn’t want The Tribal Chief to come up short against anyone. He’s already unpinned unsubmitted for the past 1000 days and that status might not end until Wrestlemania 39 arrives. Meanwhile, it’ll be interesting to see how WWE will separate the two top titles, down the road.
