Wrestlemania 40 will mark another outing for the legendary Rey Mysterio at the biggest stage of pro wrestling. For two consecutive years, he will go up against his own flesh-and-blood Dominik Mysterio. But after picking up a solo win last year, he will be competing in a tag team match against the Judgment Day member.
On this past Friday’s SmackDown, a tense confrontation unfolded between Legado Del Fantasma and the LWO during a promo segment which further led to a tag team match being booked at WrestleMania 40. Rey Mysterio was the one to propose this match that would see him team up with a partner of his choice against Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio.
Wrestlemania 40: Top Champion To Set New Record At WWE PLE
Since Carlito is a veteran member of LWO, he was supposed to be the pick by Rey but then he surprised everyone by introducing Dragon Lee as the newest member of the LWO. Lee was also announced to be his WrestleMania 40 tag team partner which could cause a crack at the alliance.
In an update from WWFOldSchool, Carlito’s reaction when Rey announced Wrestlemania 40 was something noticeable. Hence, it was predicted by the source that Carlito would eventually turn his back on the legendary name to possibly cost him this matchup.
Wrestlemania 40: Legendary Appearances Hinted At WWE PLE On Raw
Before this match announcement came around for Wrestlemania 40, Santos Escobar was on a whole new level of dominance. The latter injured Rey Mysterio with a torn meniscus in November and built a new faction since then. The WWE Hall of Famer then made his comeback, last month to rekindle the feud.
Initially, it was supposed that a faction vs. faction match would be announced for the Show of Shows. But then WWE converted it into a traditional tag team bout that could come up with a twist.
