WWE’s grand event, Wrestlemania 40 has been confirmed to go down from the city of ‘Brotherly Love’, next year. Whenever the show of shows comes around, rumors surface about The Rock making a comeback and possibly being a part of the event in a wrestling or non-wrestling capacity. But in reality, it’s been more than seven years that he was a part of the grand wrestling show.
The fantasy match against Roman Reigns has been under speculation for quite some time, but it just didn’t go down at Wrestlemania 39 despite it being held from the outskirts of Hollywood. With WrestleMania 40 less than a year away now, rumblings have already started about the match possibly getting postponed to that night.

The Rock left the door open for a Wrestlemania 40 return
Giving an update on this match at Wrestlemania 40, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that The Rock has not closed the door on WrestleMania 40. He reportedly “left a crack in the door” about having a WrestleMania match, next year but then again things depend on his extremely busy schedule,
“Reigns had pretty much gone through everyone at the top tier on the roster, and with the exception of Gunther or, of course, The Rock. Dwayne Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening. There didn’t appear to be another new challenger on the horizon.”
WWE said to already making plans around Wrestlemania 40
Heading into Wrestlemania 39, The Rock was once a virtual lock for an appearance, irrespective of whether he wrestles on the show or not. Then The Great One reportedly said that he wouldn’t be physically ready by the event to be in a wrestling state and hence his match against Roman Reigns was canceled. That led the fans to book the match for WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.
Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia will be the host of WrestleMania 40, on Saturday, April 6, and Sunday, April 7, 2024. The same source has recently provided an update and said that WWE possibly has some major plans already sketched for it. The situation is adverse to the previous regime that used to operate under short notice,
“They have a year of post-Mania plans. This is not something where we’re gonna do WrestleMania and then the creative team, Hunter is going to wake up and be ‘what the f**k are we gonna do now?’”
