Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio have become the new WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions at WrestleMania Backlash. The pay-per-view event witnessed The Mysterios defeat Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode to capture the titles as they have now become the first father-son duo to become tag champs. This is historic as never before in WWE, such an incident had taken place.
Rey wrestled the first part of this Wrestlemania Backlash title match, all by himself after Dominik was attacked earlier in the night by Roode and Ziggler during a backstage segment. Dominik then appeared towards the end of the match to help his father. Rey hit a 619 to Roode while a sunset flip bomb from him took out Ziggler. Dominik then hit the top rope frog splash to receive the pin on Roode to win the titles.

As mentioned, this is the first title run for Rey and Dominik together, making them the first father-son duo to win gold in WWE. Rey also won tag titles in WWE at Wrestlemania Backlash after over a decade. Ziggler and Roode won the titles back on the January 8 SmackDown episode by defeating The Street Profits – Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins.
Potential reason behind this title ain at Wrestlemania Backlash
It should be noted that the title win by Mysterios was expected at Wrestlemania Backlash. According to the reports of Wrestling News, WWE officials have plans for The Usos to become SmackDown Tag Team Champions once again so that all the three Samoan brothers – Roman Reigns, Jey, and Jimmy Uso will be champions to solidify their faction – The Bloodline.
Since they will all be heels, WWE officials also want The Usos to defeat a babyface tag team to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. This is why the former tag champs, Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler were planned to drop the belts to the team of Dominik and Rey Mysterio.
This is the reason why Rey and Dominik Mysterio have won the tag titles at Wrestlemania Backlash but there’s doubt whether they will have a decent or lengthy title run.
