Wrestlemania Backlash witnessed a strange scene where a wave of zombies invaded a WWE show for the first time in history. Former WWE Champion Batista sent some of his “Army of the Dead” zombies to be present at last night’s pay-per-view. It was all done in a kayfabe purpose in order to promote the upcoming Netflix flick starring The Animal in the lead role.

At the beginning of Wrestlemania Backlash, Batista dropped a pre-show tweet saying that he couldn’t make it to the pay-per-view, but some of his “friends” would be there. It was previously announced that Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” movie would be one of the co-sponsors of the event as those “friends” appeared to be were a large group of zombies. They were used for the Zombies Lumberjack Match between The Miz and Damian Priest.

Eventually, the zombies pulled him over the barrier and then ate him. The finish of the match saw Priest deliver Hit the Lights on Miz for the pin to win. He then retreated to safety as the zombies entered the ring to eat The Miz while he was down.

The storyline perspective to change this match involving the zombies was that WWE Official Adam Pearce was behind it, as revealed on Twitter. This goes back to RAW where Priest asked Pearce to make his Wrestlemania Backlash encounter with The Miz a Lumberjack Match, telling him he could bring “RAW Superstars, SmackDown Superstars, aliens or even zombies.”

Nonetheless, it was a pleasant surprise to see a match in a different kind of setting inside WWE ThunderDome. Batista was also the one who narrated the opening video package of WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view. His “Army of the Dead” movie had a limited theatrical release this past weekend which will hit Netflix this coming Friday. Meanwhile, the bygone match has wrapped up the feud between Miz and Priest that is ongoing even before Wrestlemania 37.
