WWE made their return to Madison Square Garden with this week’s Super Smackdown edition from New York City. Despite a number of segments’ cancellations from the event, it was a successful outing with the likes of The Demon King or Brock Lesnar making their way back to WWE’s weekly programming. Edge vs. Seth Rollins also featured in this episode dedicated to the 9/11 incident victims.

Now, WWE will again return to Madison Square Garden in NY for the annual post-Christmas live event on Sunday, December 26. This has been a tradition for the company for the past few years. But it did not take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, a Ticketmaster pre-sale has begun late last night with the “HOLIDAY” pre-sale code to sell out the tickets of the upcoming show.

WWE reportedly set a record with Super SmackDown on FOX taping from Madison Square Garden. It appears that the MSG TV taping produced the highest-grossing blue brand event of all-time in WWE’s history, according to Ariel Helwani.

“Last night’s WWE Smackdown at MSG produced the highest grossest Smackdown gate of all time, per sources. Not just in NY. Of any city ever for any SD. (Smackdown has been around for 20 years.),” the tweet from the source noted.

WWE hosted a sold-out Madison Square Garden event

During the commentary, Smackdown announcer Michael Cole announced a sold-out crowd of 14,425 fans in attendance for last night’s Madison Square Garden return. It was noted by WrestleTix that the attendance was likely closer to 13,000, and the announced number wasn’t accurate. WWE often boosts up their announced attendance numbers.

Edge was one of the headliners of the Madison Square Garden event as she competed against Seth Rollins. He was apparently very emotional for his first match at the venue after a decade. There was a moment during the commercial break, following Edge’s entrance, where he got down on his knees, then kissed the mat to let her emotions out. This perhaps marked the final time that he performed at this historic venue.

As of now, there’s no word on what WWE has planned for Edge and Rollins after Edge was taken out in a stretcher on Super SmackDown after digesting the Stomp from his opponent. Earlier this year, The Rated R Superstar was heavily rumored for a move to RAW during the draft.
